Baillie Gifford

Fund: The Schiehallion Fund

Why is the Fund a Fund to Watch?:

• A proven growth investor in private markets: Schiehallion is built on Baillie Gifford’s long-standing success in backing high-growth businesses and deep private markets expertise. Since 2012, we have invested over $10bn across more than 160 private growth companies, giving the fund access to experience, networks and judgement developed over more than a decade.

• Access to global private leaders: The fund provides access to some of the world’s most exceptional private companies – and asset class in which it is ordinarily hard to invest. Schiehallion holds six of the world’s ten most valuable private growth businesses, alongside fast-growing companies emerging beyond the traditional venture capital ecosystem.

• IPO momentum creating opportunity: Four holdings in the portfolio have listed in the past two years, and several of the fund’s largest positions are approaching public-market maturity. Potential listings over the next 12–24 months could support performance momentum while generating liquidity to reinvest in the next generation of exceptional private companies.

Presentation Synopsis:

Navigating the $6 trillion private growth opportunity

Many of the world’s most innovative and disruptive businesses are staying private for longer – keeping a larger share of their growth journey outside of the public markets. As a result, large, fast-growing companies that have become household names: SpaceX, Anthropic, Stripe, to name a few, are out of direct reach of public market investors. Instead, a new asset class has emerged – private growth equity. Companies with a proven product, with the prospect of accelerated growth and progress towards profitability. Peter Singlehurst, manager of the Schiehallion Fund, will offer insights into navigating – and accessing – this new investment environment.
