The British Heart Foundation

The heart of the matter
I literally would not be here without the medical research funded by the British Heart Foundation. Its pioneering work helped create the two artificial heart values which keep me alive every day. When they were fitted 20 years ago, I was told they cost £25,000 each (about £40,000 in today’s money) so in recent years I’ve been running as many marathons as possible to pay back some of that cost. The BHF’s work carries on and is making a significant difference to the lives of the 1 in 100 children who are born with a heart defect which requires surgery within the first six months of their lives. They live because BHF has helped discover new procedures and devices to help these children live long and meaningful lives. Please help BHF carry with on this pioneering medical research and improve the lives of future generations who could be in your families.
